Pirate Challenge Environment (UDK)

An environment created to the guidelines of the one week Pirate Challenge of the World of Level Design.

INFO

The Environment was designed and built in UDK using about a dozen props supplied by Warren M, such as planks, a boulder, brick, box and a bottle.

With the overarching goal to create a feeling of an environment cobbled together haphazardly from flotsam by unskilled pirates, I designed the area with emphasis on verticality to, though the area was limited in size, try to give the impression of unplanned city expansion and rickety, unsafe construction.

As per the rules of the challenge, no revision of textures or assets was allowed, but with only a limited selection of props, and of such varying degree of usefulness, this project was an absolute treat as a challenge in being creative: A piece of chain could be turned into a cannon, bottles were resized and used as porthole windows or lighthouse lanterns, and materials were rewritten to have boxes bob around on the waves.
